The successful mentor program for Engineering and Computer Science students is continuing in the Spring 2004 term.

Our first event is to take place next week, and then we will utilize the cirlce method of mentoring, which allows for natural relationships to develop. We will also match up mentors with mentees as it is requested. As part of that event, mentors and mentees described the expectations they have of the mentoring relationship, and of how that relates to their academic and career goals.

The next event is an introductory event to get the mentoriny program started this term:

  • Tuesday, January 20th, 4:30 to 6:00 (Elliot 062): Come as you are! This is just an informal "chat" session, with Free Pizza!.

  • Here is a PDF to the recreational problem we looked at on February 5th, 2003.

Background information on Mentoring & the Mentor Program

An effective mentoring program will ensure that mentees have someone with more experience from whom to seek advice. At the same time a mentoring program will enable mentors to share their insights and experience, either from work-terms or at the university and to develop their communication skills. Research shows that mentors and mentees gain insight into their own roles, learning modes and viability as learners and workers. This is a no-fee, win-win program which the Faculty of Engineering is facilitating in order to expand our success. One of the goals of the program is to achieve a better balance of men and women. To that end some spaces may be reserved for women students.

Begun in September 2000, our goal is to provide a friendly and productive learning environment for all students via this program.

Please see the "who are we" page for more information about this program.
