The Department of Computer Science at the University of Victoria is home to dynamic and active leaders in a broad range of research areas. These areas not only include areas of long standing study (such as Numerical Analysis, Digital Systems, Algorithms, Computer Graphics, and others) but also newer multidisciplinary areas that form part of the Department's commitment to engaging other academic disciplines at UVic. We are proud of the accomplishments of our faculty and students who have established the Department as world-class presence in the field of IT research and as an important contributor to Canada's vibrant information economy.
With the university situated at the southern tip of Vancouver Island, the city of Victoria and the Greater Victoria Regional District hosts many successful high-tech startups that have made major contributions to the provincial and national economy. Our researchers continue to help many of these companies. Our research is organized into several research groups, with Software Engineering and Systems itself host to additional groups. The work of the these groups has also involved collaborations with many areas of government and industry.
Our progressive faculty and researchers attract funding in excess of $7 million annual and mentor students on cutting-edge developments and advancements. We are supported with research grants provided by a number of sources, include the National Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and other sources from within the Province of British Columbia.
