Program Overview

Not all students have the same needs and interests and our degree programs recognize this. We offer the following wide range of undergraduate degree programs:

Bachelor of Science

Honours

Major

Major with Option in:

General

Minor

Combined BSc

Honours in Computer Science and:

  • Mathematics
  • Physics
  • Statistics

Major in Computer Science and:

Combined BSc or BFA

Major in Computer Science and:

Most students complete a Major or Major with Option degree. In the first two years, the course offerings aim to establish a firm grounding in basic Computer Science and Mathematics, with specialization in the last two years. Graduates from these programs are well prepared to pursue careers in industry. With sufficiently high standing, entrance into graduate study is also possible.

The Honours degrees are the most comprehensive programs offered by the Department. For students who are planning to pursue further studies and specialization beyond the undergraduate level, these programs provide greater depth and breadth than the other degrees and correspondingly, a greater range of career options. Honours requires additional Math courses and more intensive study in Computer Science including a fourth year project.

Students may also pursue a Minor in Computer Science by completing the requirements for the Minor Program in Computer Science in conjunction with the requirements for an Honours or Major Program offered by another Department.  Why not combine English with a minor in Computer Science?

To find our more about Course Requirements for the above programs, see the Computer Science entry in the UVic Course Calendar.

The Computer Science Department Advising Centre can help you decide which option will be best for you.
