"Bioinformatics is a rapidly growing field. Pursuing the Bioinformatics option allows me to combine my interests in biology and computer science. With this knowledge I would like to conduct research and answer questions of biological interest through computational methods." - Francesco Marass
The Bioinformatics Option Program is for students who want focus their computer science skills in the area of Bioinformatics, developing the interdisciplinary skills so essential for a career in biotechnology and pharmaceutical work, genome centers and academic departments, health sciences, software design or theoretical research. Students in this program work towards a Bachelor's degree of Science with a Major in Computer Science.
The degree program includes the essential courses for a Computer Science degree with a Bioinformatics focus. Computer Science courses include programming techniques, algorithms, data structures, operating systems, networks, multimedia systems, digital signal processing and artificial intelligence. Option-specific courses include biology, chemistry, biochemistry, genetics, statistics, molecular biology and molecular evolution.
