Visual Arts + Computer Science

The combined degree program in Visual Arts and Computer Science is for those who intend to work with technology and painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, digital media or video. Students in this program work towards a Bachelor's degree of either Fine Arts or Science as a Combined Major in Music and Computer Science.

The computer has become a major tool and medium for the creation and display of visual arts. The objective of this program is to prepare students to become the new mediators between the digital art and computer science domains. Students with these skills work in the entertainment industry, art galleries and museums, marketing and promotion, multimedia design and production and as designers and project managers. 

The combined degree program includes the essential courses for both a Visual Arts and Computer Science degree. Visual Arts courses include studio foundatuon, drawing, art theory, video art, painting, scultpure, photography, digital media arts, digital media installation and curatorial direction. Computer Science courses include programming techniques and languages, algorithms, data structures, digital logic and computer organization, architecture, assembly language, operating systems, database systems, object-oriented software development and human-computer interaction. Students in this program are able to access co-op placements from both the Humanities, Fine Arts and Professional Writing Co-op and the Faculty of Engineering.
